Many parts of this shows is being copied from the show Pretender (also on hulu, which I liked much better than this- also it had closure with 4 full seasons). In the Pretender, the main character (Jarod) is seen using a magic 8 ball on one of the episodes, like in this episode. I have seen plenty other parts copied from the Pretender too, like the Nugenesis part from the episode 'Identity' was also copied from the Pretender. I believe Pretender was much better since it had better variety since the main character Jarod would take on different professions since he had the ability to master any profession really quickly making him a genius.

It's getting harder for me to watch the show. I do not believe John's behavior. He was examining the needle like it was a toy. He might as well look into the barrel of a loaded gun. The Scotland Yard inspector was more interesting as a character; being pompous and arrogant, if he was a great diagnostician, he would have been the House M.D. of detectives. Gabrielle was definitely the highlight of the episode. I think my interest in the show would be renewed if Gabrielle became a permanent relationship. She does it so well in Burn Notice. If they move on and don't explain why she's not in his life, I can't empathize for John anymore. His character will be plastic to me. How can you not adapt and grow and instead just leave someone that intelligent and beautiful? it would be a tragedy.

The show started off strong, but the guy really is more of a savant than a genius. For someone who knows everything, he acts kinda stupid at times. Example: All the poison in the device is used up, people are keyed up because there have been 2 murders; he discovers who the target of the murder attempt really was and goes running like a chicken with his head cut off."Let's run down into the valley and do one of those cows" said the young bull. "Lets walk down there and do them all" said the old bull. You would think that elementary logic like that would be in the repertoire of John Doe.The other thing is that he's always acting like he's surprised to discover that he has amnesia.Him spouting off random facts such as when he's trying to stave off the claustrophobia is just a weak writers tool that didn't work IMHO.I'm watching these in order and hoping the show gets better.

Excellent series! If you like Bourne, you'll like Doe. I didn't see it when it was running. However, after seeing it here, I cannot imagine why it stopped. It's a shame the producers didn't try to sell it to another network.
