The wife cannot take correction. The couple is asked whether it's OK for the kids to make noise in the car. The father says yes. The wife says "no screaming". The father, Mr. Phelps, correctly points out that the question was not whether the kids could scream but rather whether they could make noise. Mrs. Phelps cannot accept the fact that she made an incorrect and negative assumption and she immediately brings up the prospect of divorce and accuses the husband of always mistreating her. She finds fault with him because he noticed her mistake. He did nothing wrong. He ended up backing down. He will die young of a heart attack. This woman will end up killing him. She would rather drive her husband crazy than admit she makes mistakes.

Okay, I got spanked when I was younger, so did my sister. My parents never spanked us more than twice, and never violently...just enough that we knew they meant business. They stopped spanking probably around when we both hit four. I believe that OCCASIONALLY it is alright for a parent to spank. Never because they are simply frustrated, or as a first response.
