I agree about that comment. At first when hearing that comment it sounded very derogatory toward not glenn beck but mormons. The onion needs to be careful about that kind of stuff.

Let me see if I can explain this. While loathsome, opportunistic, smarmy, disingenuous, hateful, shameless, repugnant, and creepy, Glenn Beck does not actually deserve to die a horrible death. To imply in a mock news story that everyone in the world hates Glenn Beck so much that they wish that he was the victim of every grisly random tragedy is an outragous exaggeration, expressed in an imaginatively ironic and surprising way. Here on Planet Earth, we humans refer to this as "a joke". If the story had been about someone who actually deserves to die horribly, e.g. Kim Jung Il, or Osama bin Laden, that would not have been a joke. That would have been more in the nature of a depressing meditation on the cruelty of fate, and the randomness of an uncaring universe. The Onion went with the joke instead. It was a judgement call.
