Among other things, there is too much focus on Peter and Neal, and not enough from and about the supporting actors. A show like this needs good ensemble work. What happened to Peter's probie (Diane or Diana, her name is)? More needs to be done with Peter's crew, including the Black agent who was tailing Demetri (the one killed in the hotel). And more with Neal's friend, the mine of information. The domestic stuff with Peter's wife can get flat very fast, just to try to give him some human and fragile sides. The producers would do well to look more closely at NCIS and CSI.
Neal is too much on the make. For a man who is carrying a torch as big as that for Kate, he should not be trying to seduce every attractive woman he sees, or we might find that the producers are just using the Kate sub-plot to give Neal some way to break his promises to Peter. A much better idea is that women go after him, but he stays aloof. But not too much of that, either.
In short, the second time out this series is starting to look rather mechanical.
The producers must be spending a mint on location fees, considering the posh real estate they are having to rent. But I do like to see these places, as I've not been to NYC in some time and I'm nostalgic.
