Basil Rathbore shall forever be the definitive movie Holmes, so much that from that time on most actors were chosen by how much they resembled Rathbone (even casting Vincent Price in Disney's THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE as Basil). Its difficult watching any other sort of form and taking Holmes seriously. Anna May Wong on the other hand is always worth watching and unfortunately there are few films available showcasing her talent. Mostly she pops up in Dragon Lady roles in various China Town Mysteries like the Charlie Chan series. I recommend LADY FROM CHUNGKING and BOMBS OVER BURMA since they feature her in the lead and as the heroine no less. Unfortunately Hollywood would not allow her to move beyond B-films preferring to cast white women in asian roles. I give the film 2 stars, Anna May Wong 4 stars. Average = 3 stars.

Contains elements of several of the Holmes stories. A good representaiton of the character.

Other than that, this was a really poorly made, poorly written movie. And the casting, aside from Ms. Wong, was just awful. Most of the actors are subpar and completely indistinguishable from another, and the plot is uninteresting and confusing - Merryduke and Sherlock look, sound, and act a whole lot a like. Without reading the summary beforehand, I wouldn't have had a clue what this "film" was about. Don't bother.

has anyone a graphic equalizer on his player? Pulling out 250HZ and boosting the 1000/2500 range assists in pulling the snap crackle and pop out of the audio. You can do better, but you have to do something other than complain.Good luck.
