In a time when most anime is throwaway pop culture eye-candy Robotech still stands the test of time. I originally watched this in 1986. It has more depth and character development than I could understand then. I remain enthralled and impressed beyond any other anime series, OVA or movie. The characters are very real and human, flawed and struck by inner battles of their past and history. Each character is dealt with in their own respective eppisode unlike the past series. I realize younger generations who are stuck on the trendy anime with bouncing breasts and unrealistic character will not understand that Robotech transcends the anime cult and is a message to humanity about our own fragile nature, how we have the power to achieve great things or destroy ourselves. Ultimately it is about friendship, loyalty, dedication and love. Most live action movies can only attempt what Carl Macek and the voice actors, original writers and music composers were able to do and create an epic that is beyond a space opera such as Star Trek or an archaic mythology archetype tale such as Star Wars but something that is closer to what the recent Battlestar Galactica series was able to achieve: a real human story.
