whoa. you guys are reading WAY to into this whole Muslim thing. I think it works like this: producers want money. To get money they need viewers. To get viewers they need to appeal to a demographic, but in todays world you need to appeal to a wide range of demographics to compete with other shows. Now, producers find that adding certain types of characters can change how many viewers they have.
Like the gay guys, gays are starting to have a place in the media and society as a whole. Dont read into that or anything, what i am saying has nothing to do with gays themselves and I am not saying that they never had a place before. I am saying that they are slowly becoming socially acceptable. Thus some people want to specifically see gays, or Muslims or etc on tv so they can relate easier.
Think about it, when its socially acceptable, people want to see it. When it is not socially acceptable, the producers lose viewers.
You would not have put a Russian on a 50's tv show, right? Its just like that.   See 21 other replies
