I tried really hard to like this b/c I loved Sex and The City and have enjoyed much of Candace Bushnell's writing.
But I simply couldn't.
The book _Lipstick Jungle_ is wayyyyy better than this show.
Who likes Brooke Shields? I find her acting abominable. And her voice unlistenable. She comes off as soooo fake. In the book, the character is roundish, with unkempt hair...the kind of frumpy but lovable woman who's too busy to bother with her looks.
And what's with the British husband? They don't explain it. It wasn't in the book. He's so needy he's also unlikeable so you have no leading men* that are worth watching unless you count the billionaire.
The Joe Bennett character might have been believable played by an hunky actor with a powerful persona. The actor they picked, can't recall his name because he's NOT memorable, is weak chinned, small shouldered, and absolutely unappealing. I actually found myself physically revolted during the love scene in Paris.
Gag!
The only woman character I found likable is Kim Raver's role. And just barely - not enough to hold my attention for long or to make me care much about what happens to her.
You have to have both likable women and desirable men if you want to pull in the female demographic which gave Sex and the City so much success. This show has neither!
*not counting the boy toy who's yummy since he seems the kind of character they'll throw away after a few episodes.
