It's very similar to what any country experiences at almost any period in time. This is not the defining time for the U.S., if it feels that way it's just because you're living it now. Politicians are always trying to spin every issue as being the issue of a lifetime. Hope and change were words in a dictionary before 2007. When Bush ran for office in 2000 his platform was not "more of the same". Same with Clinton, or almost any other politician in any other country. See 30 other replies

Before the Russian revolution the Czar controlled the means of production (and yes that was the government) was that Socialism also? It's what the government does with those means of production - does it distribute it to the people or consolidate the power and resources in select few individuals?

Much of V is a mirror of today's societal challenges. "Hope" and "Change" and the anxiety of it all, a broken world with a group claiming to have the answer/solution, providing universal health care as an enticement and entitlement for all, terrorism, control of the media...it is all very similar to what we are experiencing in America today.
