I am finding it hilarious how so many Cons are finding the Visitors to be a parallel to the Democrats. I too was taken aback by "Universal Health Care " but it was a joke, as in TREATING THE WHOLE UNIVERSE! It was meant to be a timely reference. And in the original series the people started cults that were "devoted" to the Visitors, a young man "volunteered" and betrayed his family, and the aliens offered "change" and "hope" in solving all of our problems. So are we to assume that the series in 1983 was about Reagan? ( People seem to forget that Reagan was a BS master himself.) You are seeing what you want to see, period. I can't remember if it was in the original but I don't recall anything in the pilot about the President being an alien. (Dick Cheney on the other hand...) So far they seem to be following the original closely as far as the basic themes, which was a comment on the dangers of fascism so it probably should have aired 8 years ago.
As far as the show goes, I would have liked it to have been a 2 hour pilot so the the Reptilian revelation wouldn't have seemed so rushed. There were some questions like "Why didn't the FBI chick call in backup instead of fleeing the scene(Fear perhaps? No one would believe her?), "Why do the aliens look just like us"(exact same evolutionary process? Would they say they seeded our planet with their DNA centuries ago?)"Do they have proof of a God?" Hopefully these things will come up in the next episode. It's a shame that Alan Tudyk's character had to die off, but I am loving seeing Morena Baccarin again, she was wonderful in Firefly, and her character is a complete opposite of Inara Serra . Overall it was enjoyable show, just don't read too much into what is basically a popcorn thriller.
