This movie takes me back to my childhood. It ran on HBO in an almost constant rotation in the early '80s, when there were fewer than 100 channels and movie channels had only recently started the 24/7 format. It has that naive quality that's missing from modern popcorn movies where today some fat producer would let some hack director spend $250M to make a film that would ultimately be not nearly as entertaining or as original as this, or have you not been to the cinema lately?
This has always been one of my favorites. The Mike Nesmith soundtrack to Fred Ward's acting make it a classic. It's a great twist on an old subject, don't miss it.
...but then again I'm a sucker for almost any time-travel movie. 4-stars for the memories.
Yes, I too rented this more than once back in 'the day'. Sure, the plot does more than its fair share of dragging. Too bad the end carries that twisted I-am-my-own-grandfather implication (which is used to far better effect in Futurama). I suppose being pseudo-critically panned in South Park's episode 'Goobacks' might also be considered another black strike against this movie. (www.southparkstudios.com/guide/806)
"Timerider" should double-featured with "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins"!
