I used to watch TTT back when it aired, as a kid. ya gotta remember... those were the days with three networks, and network execs who 'thought' the American people were dumb as stumps... "aw hell... who'll ever know the difference?". A lot of us watched it simply because, if you liked, and wanted Sci Fi, you had to take what they'd give you. But I digress...
Like most of Irwin Allen's other productions, the initial premise was intriguing, and many of the special FX were pretty good (for the day). However, I.A. never could 'get the hang' of writing good scripts (or paying enough to get good writers)(whatever)... and just like in every other TV series with his name, it's like 'they just kept running out of plausible ideas', so- they'd produce those same ol', tired, episodes... like, there's always some with people with silver skin... and you always see the same electronic equipment (supposed to be 'computers') on "Time Tunnel", "Lost in Space", "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", and so on.
I'm just surprised that someone hasn't done a new 'Time Tunnel'... (like, 'Lost in Space'). After all... it HAS been the decade of 'no new ideas'... so just remake the old stuff. One of the real reasons Roddenberry's "Star Trek" did so well... he actually bothered to 'try' to keep an eye on continuity, real science, and not assuming that the viewing public were all morons... something I doubt I.A. ever even considered.
In short, TTT is probably best for the visual special effects/artwork/sets... but never, EVER for the scripts/stories (even if you love sci fi).
