"The Shape of Things" is the third part of Neil LaBute's unofficial trilogy dealing with gender politics (the others being "In the Company of Men" and "Your Friends & Neighbors). Unrelentingly scathing and thought-provoking, LaBute has crafted a fascinating tale about how easily one can be manipulated by the opposite sex. Whereas "In the Company of Men" and "Your Friends & Neighbors" brilliantly dissected misogynistic alpha-males (Aaron Eckhart and Jason Patric, respectively), "The Shape of Things" instead turns its attention to women who use their sex to dominate men. Rachel Weisz' s Evelyn is the embodiment of this type of woman and her control over Paul Rudd's painfully meek Adam is disturbingly plausible. The conclusion is one of the most shocking in recent memory and takes absolutely no prisoners. Highly recommended.
i can't belive i sat and watched that entire movie, i now feel dumber. all the characters were annoying and unnrealistic just like the entire movie. shame on Rudd and Weisz, easily their worst movie. also Neil LaBute has the mind of a 16 year old girl. i cannot stress enough on how boring this movie was and how Rudd's character was so spine-less that it was hard to sit and watch him act so unmanly. i would only recommend this movie to my worst enemies.
I think this film was greatly thought out, it kept you along during the happy times and the tribulations setting you up for the drop kick in the emotional nut sack at the end! I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone!
This is a nice little gem that turned out to be stronger than I expected. While the theatrical roots of the movie can be distracting (a tiny cast in drawn out, wordy scenes), the ultimate message and climax is extremely captivating.
Age old tale about how easily a woman manipulates the male in her life for the sport of changing him into what she wants and thinks he should. Dissecting the male into a shape of a disturbing nature that is both laughable and sad at the same time. Well worth your time to see this.
