My name is Angela Shelf Medearis, and I'm known as THE KITCHEN DIVA! I'd like to address the comments made about the show and clear up some misunderstandings.
* HULU will not allow us to display our website on-screen and the sidebars where we show the exact measurements didn't work with this format. I'm happy to send along the recipes for the show and you can email me via our website at www.divapro.com for specific recipes or information.
* While I've had opportunities to do national network food shows, the terms of those agreements would never allow me to be myself, and yes, because I'm part passionate foodie, part teacher, part Southerner, and part Diva, what you see on-screen is the real me---WHOOO! and all, honey. I know that I'm radically different than the norm when it comes to cooking show hosts, and that doesn't bother me at all. I am my own unique self, and I refuse to apologize for that. I use the media as an opportunity to express and share my love for African and African-American culinary history, and my pride in my heritage and our cuisine.
There are so many misconceptions about Africa, Africans, African-Americans and food and THE KITCHEN DIVA! show has been my opportunity to inform while entertaining. While THE KITCHEN DIVA! show isn't as smooth as we'd like it to be in the technical sense; it's everything we want it to be when it comes to expressing and sharing my passion for cooking.
* THE KITCHEN DIVA! was never a public access show. The first season aired on public television/PBS (and still air) in some parts of the U.S., the Virgin Islands, and in Canada. ALL of the funds had to come out of our pockets or from small grants we were blessed to secure. Producing a cooking show is expensive and we're not wealthy people, but the first part of any hard journey is taking the first step and THE KITCHEN DIVA! show is how we stepped out on faith.
*I thank HULU.com from the bottom of my heart for taking a chance on THE KITCHEN DIVA! show.
