this is a great movie and with a very good cast. also if i'm not mistaken there was also one remake with marlon brando that was also half way decent.

In Response to H.V. Review
Maria does revert back to an animal or at least begins to, in the last shot on the life boat, as Michael York realizes he is back to human and the ship in the distance sounds it's horn, Maria turns briefly and you can see she is beginning to revert back. Unfortunately, this movie does not do the book justice. Don't get me wrong this movie and it's concept intrigued me as a child, but the Brando remake with Val Kilmer comes a little closer to the book.
The question of whether or not man has the right to play god and try to control and manipulate nature is still argued and discussed today. That was the main concept of the book and this movie does a fair job of bringing that idea to light.
I suggest anyone who enjoys this film check out the remake with Brando and Kilmer or better yet, read the book. |

So, this is what a high budget Vincent Price movie would have been like.
Not bad. I kept thinking that Maria would turn out to be an animal too. I am left wondering, however, what the point to all of this was. Not that every movie has to have a message, but this one kind of seemed like it was supposed to. the makeup reminds me a bit of Planet of the apes.
P.S. That poor horse. |

the island of dr moreua
is not your everyday monster island movie. I found the story line intersting and was gald to have seen it. the ending wondering is she going to change afther all she was very cat moving in her sudation.

i think maybe you should try putting the movie on here you where say it was and not the older one. if this is supposed to be the remake dont you think it should be the remake.

The movie is pretty good, but the book is better (as usual).

Like this one better
I've seen the latest one, with Brando and Kilmer, and I must say I like this older version better. The new one had newer technology and a bit different plot with the female, but the acting is better in this one.
