Actually, this show is quite sympathetic to conservatism. Stilson's villainy doesn't come from being a conservative--the point is that he is PRETENDING to be a conservative, faking who he is. In "Destiny", a news anchor asks him, "So are you against big government?" In pure Barack Obama fashion, Stilson replies, "I'm against BAD government." Constantly, he's seen breaking his conservative campaign promises behind the scenes.By the way...the GOP guy he runs against--Fisher, in "Scars"--is shown to be a sympathetic, likable guy. Also, it should be worth noting that Sarah working on Stilson's campaign, I think, strongly implies that SHE is a conservative. As for Rev. Purdy, the entire point is that Johnny at first THINKS of him as a fraud, corrupt, etc.--but he finds out, as we do, that Gene is all in all a pretty good guy. He may feel led to do things we may not approve of--but it's for the right reasons. His heart's in the right place.
