Raptor Jesus is right. Just because the Amish are a religiously conservative people, they still live in a tight knit community. Is it socialism if everyone you live with pitches in for whatever you need? The biggest problem I have with Republicans railing against universal health care is that at the same time, they profess to be Christian. I'd like to know the last time Glenn Beck went up to a person down on their luck and helped them back up. Most conservatives will never do that, because they have a twisted view of capitalism, religion, and Ayn Rand's philosophies. Just doesn't make any sense, unless your effing crazy.
On a side note, I live and work on a farm in south eastern PA. I'm surrounded by Amish and Mennonites. Yeah, some still live that "pure" life style, but many do not. In town there is a massage therapist, and most of the clients are Amish. There is a family doctor near the massage therapist, and again, most of the patients are Amish. I see the Amish riding a horse and buggy to Wal-Mart. Face it, the Amish aren't as cultural pure as people want to believe.
