I already commented on this, in a reply to Nick Arora, but there's something more that really needs to be said.
Regardless of what is fair (and I do believe that voting Koli in would have been more fair), voting Koli in would have been more merciful. I say this as a compliment to Daris, actually, because I'm absolutely positive that, had Koli been voted in, Daris would have been perfectly fine. Daris had run a marathon in really good time, he'd gotten a girlfriend, and most importantly, he would have had something solid to blame. He did, after all, gain a pound, even while training to run a marathon. If the public had voted Koli in after that, Daris would probably have simply shrugged, said, "well, I did, after all, gain a pound," looked at his new girlfriend and remembered running the marathon... and he would have been happy. He would have been FINE!
Koli, OTOH, had nothing to attribute losing to, except that the public didn't like him. Words cannot begin to express what a cruel thing that is to do to somebody who's always struggled with depression, and who's only just beginning to learn how to like himself. Nobody deserves that. Nobody. Especially not somebody who has, so often, shown himself to be a very decent, honest, caring person. So he was wrong about Stephanie, and he should have kept his mouth shut. So he got a little cocky, just like EVERYBODY who's only just beginning to learn to like themselves. He's still a decent, honest, caring person who didn't deserve to have the public shred his newly-found, and therefore fragile, ability to like himself.
