We're excited to announce Closed Captioning support with Hulu Plus on Apple TV. Below are some questions you may have regarding this feature.
In order to access closed captions through Hulu Plus, your Apple TV will need to be updated to the most recent firmware, 5.2 or above. If your device is up-to-date, you will notice the change the next time Hulu Plus is launched.
If your Apple TV is running an older firmware version, you will need to update your device first. To update your Apple TV, select Settings > General > Software Update. Once your Apple TV is finished updating, you will be able to access captions the next time Hulu Plus is launched.
While playing a video, press and hold the Select option on your Apple TV remote. If captions are available, you will then see the Subtitles menu with the ability to toggle between English and Off. Your selection will be remembered for future videos.
To turn on/off captions across all videos, from the Apple TV main menu, select Settings > Audio & Video > Closed Captioning. Do note that you can still turn off/on captions from within a video.
While on your Apple TV, videos that are captioned will have a CC box on each episode or movie's main page.
To browse or search for captioned content, we have a search filter available through Hulu.com.
- Log in to your Hulu Plus account on Hulu.com
- Hover over Browse at the top left of the site
- Choose the section you will be looking through
- At the top-right of the page, you will see a checkbox for CC
- Your search results will be narrowed down to videos with captions
