Why Is the Video Quality So Poor on 3G/4G?

Our goal is to deliver an optimal video streaming experience to all of our users. If you're running the Hulu Plus iOS app on a slower internet connection, the video quality will adjust accordingly to ensure smooth playback. While this adjusted stream will buffer less, the picture quality will be lower. Therefore, 3G and some 4G connections may not allow as high of a quality as would a Wi-Fi source. We recommend connecting to a Wi-Fi or LTE network, if available, to get the best picture possible.

You can test your network connection with third-party apps like SpeedTest from the App Store. We recommend 1.5 Mbps for Standard Definition video and 3 Mbps for High Definition video.

If you believe your connection is fast, but the streaming quality does not reflect that, contact us directly and let us know what troubleshooting steps you've already tried. We'll be happy to investigate further.
