Hulu currently receives closed-captioning data for some of its shows and is committed to expanding our library of closed-captioned content. The closed-captioning data that's used for broadcast TV isn't easily translated for online use, so we're investigating alternative solutions to boost our closed-captioning coverage.

On videos where closed captioning is available, you'll see a "cc" button to the left of the volume control. Click on that, select the appropriate language and closed captions will display.  Additionally, so you never miss a caption because it's blended into the background image, you can now choose from three options for displaying captions on-screen: white text, yellow text, or white text against a solid, dark background. 

We also offer a default setting for closed captioning that will turn on captioning whenever it's available. To activate this setting, log in and go to the Settings tab in your Hulu profile. Check the Automatically turn on closed captions if available box, choose your color preference, and closed captioning will display whenever you play a video that offers this feature.

You can easily find closed captioned videos by browsing our Most Popular and Recently Added pages; both accessible from the Hulu home page. Select CC only to display only videos with captioning. You can also find this filter on any search results pages.

 Closed Captioning is currently available only on select Hulu Plus Devices.
