Speed 2: Cruise Control

"Relationships based on extreme circumstances never work out." According to Annie Porter (Sandra Bullock), those are words to live by. She should know - her last boyfriend, Jack, a daredevil cop, wasn't exactly the romantic type and they have long since parted ways. But as the vehicularly-challenged Annie explains to her understandably nervous driving examiner while careening through the streets of Los Angeles, she is now dating a much quieter, relaxed guy. To be sure, Alex Shaw (Jason Patric) also works in law enforcement, but he drives a ten-speed bike, and his most perilous duty is busting teenage pickpockets at Venice Beach. Or so Annie thinks. While she continues her own assault on the city's motorists (and her hapless driving examiner), Alex, who is actually a member of an elite SWAT unit, is engaged in a high-speed motorcycle chase. Racing across the edge of a steep cliff while playing "chicken" with the truck he is pursuing, and sliding out from under his motorcycle just before it smashes into his high-speed quarry, Alex's actions can be best described as an eye-popping mix of heroics and recklessness. Annie happens on to the scene and discovers her boyfriend bruised, battered and very apologetic. Alex admits he did not want to tell her about his actual duties, for fear of losing her. He will do anything to make it up to Annie and quickly produces a pair of tickets for what promises to be the ultimate vacation.
