This show is great. It teaches nuances of basketball for sportslovers; It entails love which everyone relates to, it is funny, and the main character garners respect because he has the heart of a victor. He never quits even when things look really bad. Instead, he picks his head up and keeps plugging away until he finds a way.
Sakuragi is from the streets and is a tough guy. He often comes across as brash and crude. He is not booksmart, but he has a high basketball IQ and aptitude as well as ample streetsmarts. He is also good hearted, passionate, and loyal. He grows fast as a basketball player. He is a hardworker who doesn't back down when put to the test. I think what drives him is a longing for acceptance since he has suffered so much rejection in his life. By playing basketball, he finally finds a place where he belongs.
The story is well written and nearly every episode sucks you into the next making it hard to just turn the computer off. Kids and adults alike can learn much from this well told story. Five stars for sure, plus five more :-> Thanks Hulu.
