Awkwardly paced and surprisingly dull for what it is. Feels like a film student had a gimmick for a plot ("hey, what if a bank robber... gets it on with a hooker... and then she's like... in the bank when he robs it?" "And then what?" "Well, I guess then they fall in love."). And then the gimmick proves too simple and the student figures it'd be stylish and artistic to just have 30 minutes of drug use and fuzzy images to fill out the run-time.
The direction seemed to flop around without much of a point for most of the movie, seemingly in efforts just to make it long enough. Without really sharp snappy dialogue to carry through the slow parts, it just all seems to drag. And when the action and gunfire finally starts, it just never feels very well thought out.
This is a different type of heist flick. I enjoyed it. I saw this movie when it was originally released in theaters. It's still fun to watch. Tarantino was the executive producer of this film but I wonder how much influence he had on the direction. It clearly has his stamp, stylistically speaking.
one of the better films of this type on hulu....Eric Stolts is one of the most under used actors of his generation and Julie Delpy is great as always, the rest of the french cast is brilliant. Not to mention a great look at the Parisian underbelly. Dodgy indeed!
If you don't enjoy this chances are you don't care for imported beer, subways, 3 week benders, small fast cars, or french woman, and you may confuse sensibilities with sensitivities.
this is a bloody good film!
Not bad at all. You really do have to use your imagination during the shootout, though. also how is the movie being from 1994 in anyway relevant to how good it is? is that old to you people?
