Released the year before I was born, this is the kind of stuff I was raised on. What's most amazing is the things they could do 30 years before CG! Even though the special effects were rotten by today's standards, the movies were plot driven, and that's what mattered, at least back then.
As a life long sci-fi fan, my teeth were cut on movies like this and "Forbidden Planet" (which, itself deserves a remake). And they kick it off with the trailer for the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still"! How cool is that, huh?
On the down side, I have problems with the science, but back then we still didn't know much about the Van Allen radiation belt and other stuff, so, hey, it's just a movie, just sit back and enjoy it!
