The best way of describing the film is as a space-western, or a sort of space-opera. No tachyon emissions to follow, nor disruptions to the space-time continuum, just straight up outlaws staying one step ahead of their would-be captors while hiding an escaped Alliance human weapon and trying to keep their "gorram" ship from falling out of the sky. Joss Whedon does an excellent job of balancing action and plot, all while avoiding overdoing the CG (mostly because he didn't have the budget) and making it not look cheap (because he didn't want to). It is by far a labor of love, meant for the fans who rallied so hard and so long to revive their fallen beloved Firefly, and I am proud to call myself a browncoat.
