dont believe everything you see on tvHello.Just to let those who saw this episode on thought it was great - 80% was staged. My mom is a teacher for Hollenbeck and has been for over 20 years. I was there when they started that countdown - june 2010 and I was there when they started the painting - late august 2010. And I can say that the "designers" were not really there.. the ones who really did the work was the community, who volunteered and worked for 10 hours a day. Whenever they wanted to put something on camera, they had the "designers" dress up and work as if they were already. Also notice how they only focused on 2 teachers?!? there are dozens of teachers at Hollenbeck that have been there for many years. Why give computers and technology to 2 teachers when so many need them for their math, art and science classes. They did film other teachers but cut them out of the show. And notice that they only showed about 100 kids where there are actually 1000s of students. And how is the "stocked pantry" supposed to feed 1000s of students for the whole year? since when is canned food high quality. My mom says that Mr. Legaspi is a good teacher, so they got one thing right.
Another thing they didnt show was that since the show didn't use approved paint, the district had to repaint the school and classrooms with approved paint (which i think is quite dumb to waste that money). The school hasnt changed much, there is graffiti already, and the principal - Rico - i believe, hasnt done much to tell everyone to take care of the school.
