Maybe you are new to this so I will explain. This happens EVERY time we have an off year election, people are examining TRENDS from previous elections. The trend shows that if the president's party loses in the 1st off year election, usually his party does REALLY bad in his "mid" term election.
It's that simple and I have heard it repeated for years, so this is not anything new, get used to it.
Now, each party always tries to spin the results differently. In 2001, the Bush Administration claimed that the Republican loses were on regional issues. The Dems, of course, claimed that they were a referendum on Bush. That's just the way the parties spin.
But how did FOX cover the 2001 elections? Did they repeat the Republican spin, regional issues? They did not. They gave the same "trend" analysis as 2009, the incumbent party is in trouble for next year (and it turned out to be true).
Anyway, it's all academic now, we just have to wait a year to see is the trend applies to this "mid"term 2010 election. Meet you back here on year from today? Mark your calendar!
