Great location for this picture, the landscapes are breathtaking. Liam Neeson is a great actor to watch he seems to give 110% of him self. Jessica Lange shows great acting skill as her roll becomes more demanding. They make a great pair in the movie.
Fine film with very solid performances from Neeson, Lange, Roth and Hurt, and a lively soundtrack featuring the Scottish group Capercaillie. The villians are wonderfully detestable, and the heros noble and true. Crisply choreagraphed swordfights show there's lots of life in the genre still. Hollywoodized? Sure. Still very entertaining.
The film is loosely based on the life of Robert MacGregor, 1671-1734. His quarrel with Montrose over the loan of a thousand pounds, his skill in cattle raising -- and raiding, and his high reputation with a sword are all historical fact. He's also credited with a number of famous escapes from imprisonment.
I enjoyed this movie even though I went into it thinking I wouldn't. The actors were great and Tim Roth did a great job as an incredible villain. I'm not sure if I would buy this movie, but with it being free on Hulu it was great to watch.
Very anti-climatic. All the deaths seemed silly... almost straight out of a Monty Python film. Well if you have 2 hours to kill... Never mind, I'd rather read the book.
Mesmerizing depiction of 17th century feudal Scotland and the very (in)famous Rob Roy MacGregor. This fine romantized version makes one want to Google the parties involved and learn more about the colorful men and woman who led the way for the very proud Scotish people of today. Jessica Lange was captivating as the stoic wife of
Roy and Liam was...well, LIAM!! What more can I say? Watch this jewel of a film!
Just a great story of honor with great acting from Liam Neeson. Tim Roth was amazingly great at creating a very hateable character and did a fantastic job himself. Between the acting and the scenery, I felt like I was right there. Just a fantastic piece of cinema.
