Description

Since forming in early 2006, Syracuse’s Ra Ra Riot have perfected a brand of baroque pop that pairs indie rock panache with chamber pop flourish. After a series of critically acclaimed EPs, the band’s 2008 debut, The Rhumb Line, found the multi-instrumental six-piece spilling their brand of orchestral indie-pop across a much larger canvas. After months of touring alongside the likes of Death Cab For Cutie, the band dug in to work on 2010’s smash The Orchard, mix by Death Cab’s Chris Walla, with an assist from Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanlij. The result is a marvel of sterling arrangements, addictive hooks and subtle details that has wowed audiences across the globe.

Hardly. There is no mention of fame and fortune in this film. It just seems to chronicle a group of musicians who are searching for that organic process to create something new and worthwhile to add to the world. This is definitely not more pretentious than a vegan chastising a pig farmer or a wall street executive telling a congressional committee that the financial system is too complicated for them to understand. I wish I had the opportunity to move to an upstate farm to explore that creativity but then again, I wish I had their musical talent as well.
