I agree, Geoffrey Rush did give a fantastic performance. Your response to the sexual content of the film is fine. I'm sure that is what was expected from part of the audience. Now, my complaint lies near the end. The story fell apart after Winslet's character's death. Not to say the story was so strong throughout. I just felt as if the writer(s) didn't know how to end... things. I needn't go into details; I am neither a filmmaker nor a film critic. BUT out of 10, 10 being the proverbial Citizen Kane, I give this film a 6 out of 10.   See 5 other replies

By the disrespect for the dead and the woman, im assuming youre mentioning the veiled alter scene. The whole point of that was not disrespect but to show inner termoil and decent into insanity. That one scene contained so much symbolism, volumes could be written on it. The movie was not about disrespect of the dead or women in the least. It is about censorship and moral authority. Its about how man deals with the tension created between civilized culture and basic instincts when the ideological contradictions are brought into clear view. Though not always pleasant to watch, it was one of the best movies i've seen in a long time   See 5 other replies
