It has now been over 2000 years since the supposed death of Jesus, who may or may not have been a rabbi attempting to instill higher morals in the filthy barbarians of his time.
And yet, in this modern era, too many people still believe in the Bible. Some take it literally. Too many people lack the intelligence to overcome what they were told in their formative years. Too many can't separate fantasy from reality.
Let me attempt to clue you in. The Bible is simply Jewish mythology - especially the Old Testament. There is some truth in the Bible, but nothing supernatural actually happened in those days. Fantastic tales were much taller back then because the masses were naive enough to believe them. We're still not immune to newer tall tales. Witness Scientology.
Am I trying to imply that there is no intelligence behind the forces of nature? Of course not. There may be. There is no proof one way or the other. We can't explain how the universe came into existence and we can't declare that its primary purpose - to support life, be experienced, and be utilized to an extent - was accidental. After all, a universe that can't be witnessed is no more than a colossal waste of real estate! It may as well be nonexistent.
Anyone with a basic education in science and a grip on reality should be capable of realizing that the Bible (especially the Old Testament) doesn't come close to depicting the reality we've come to know. Rather, it more closely resembles Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. That should make a whole lot more of us wonder, but too many of us reject such comparisons because too many of us remain brainwashed by the religious nonsense that was crammed into our budding minds. Time to throw out the garbage!
