Ok, I am probably giving it a little higher rating than I normally would under the circumstances because I do want to see where the characters are going to go in a sequel. This is one of those shows where I want to take the writers and let them have it. So many times the series would build up and then just go flat with no resolution or revelation. So many times we were left hanging as Ryoko reverted back to her old-self not having been affected by her experiences. Many times I was left feeling like, hey give me the script boy you guys need some help.... so here it is (Spoiler Alert)... When Ryoko and Ryoshi end up on a double date and Ryoko is left with amnesia (ok a little cliche) so much more could have been done with this episode. When questioned by Ryoko, Ryoshi could have told her that he liked her but she hadn't really warmed up to him yet because she had gone through something and she was working hard to be strong and guarded. Then before being taken to the hospital she could have acknowledged how nice he was and to not give up on her before collapsing. In the hospital Ryoko could have woken up for a little during the night amnesia gone and the days encounters forgotten to find Ringo and Ryoshi sleeping nearby watching over her. This then could have left an impression. Through subsequent episodes she could have remembered Ryoshi's confrontation that day with Shiro and that Ryoshi still stayed by her and promised to stay by her and said he would hunt Shiro down. Then Ryoshi's resolution to become stronger for her in the next episode was followed up by inaction until several episode later with puss in boots... the whole training and working out should have inter-woven through subsequent episodes building confidence and ability. Then the last fight with Shiro and the build up was just stopped instead of having more dialogue between the two and Ryoshi trouncing Shiro a little more making a further impression on Ryoko. Ryoshi should have recalled to Shiro that he told him he would hunt him down which should have stirred Ryoko's memory back from the amnesia incident... Then finally after all that has gone on when Machiko confronts Ryoko and she says "I don't dislike him" that was just so anti-climactic, just squashing all that has happened... after all the build up she should have been able to give more, to talk to Ryoshi and open-up a little at least and let him in a little... it just fell so flat.. I hope they do a little better in a sequel.
