Homer Hickam, Jr. is a Boy Scout. It's not mentioned in the film, but it is discussed in his book, "Rocket Boys", on which the film is based. This film launched Jake G.'s career into movie star orbit.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It started Gyllenhaal's career, and shows history all at one time. I remember watching this in school not too long ago. Thus showing that a movie can be inspiring, entertaining, and educational.
October Sky is a great movie!! It has a great plot (which is based on real events) and a really great message about following your dreams. Jake Gyllenhaal is an amazing (and gorgeous) actor and this movie is one of his best! This movie is definitely worth watching over and over again! :)
I had heard this movie was great, and I think I may have watched it awhile back. It was great. Wonderful acting, great story (based on a true story). I could watch it again and again. Very touching. I recommend it.
