The original was a favorite of mine.
So, when I heard it was coming out again I thought, okay - maybe an update would be good.
So, I sat down to watch it on TV a few years ago, eagerly anticipating the pilot.
*********** Spoilers ***************
I liked the intro; the production qualities looked slick - the show looked promising.
Then we go to the scene where the mother is in the shower while the daughter is in the next room. The "monster" enters and attacks the mother in the shower. The little girl can hear her mother screaming as blood splatters everywhere.
That was so cruel and brutal, but wait - we're not done - the little girl is dragged from beneath the bed and we are left wondering what viciousness will be practiced on her.
I turned off the TV after the above scene; just to graphically cruel for me.
So, here we are years later, and I actually make it past the aforementioned scene and discover that, gee whiz, there was sort of a happy ending.
So, I think - well maybe I over-reacted the first time I watched years ago on TV; guess I'll give it another chance (or maybe I've become a little de-sensitized in the past few years).
Alright, I'll try another episode.
Remember I'm still in "spoiler mode".
So, the 2nd episode opens with a classic small town little league ball game; sweet and nostalgic.
Then the father takes a baseball bat and beats his wife to death, brain matter and blood flying.
I guess I'm just too old for this modern view of entertainment.
I think its worrisome that there are probably a lot of people out there that don't mind watching this kind of brutality. I think programs like this cut away at our humanity.
And I'm also afraid this world is becoming increasingly brutal and cruel.
I won't be watching any more of this 2nd generation Stalker.
