This review is in response to Allen H's review. He says the spirit of Dragnet is not in New Dragnet. As a person who counts Jack Webb's Dragnet series among my favorite shows of all time, I could not disagree with hin more. To begin with, who could you find better to do Dragnet's famous opening line and sentencing narration then Efrem Zimbalist, Jr, the famous voice of Kit in Knight Rider. Also, I think Sgt. Daniels acted more human than Sgt. Friday ever did. The best example I know of that is found in the episode entitled "Safe In Jail". In this episode, when Sgt. Daniels and Det. Molina are investigating a vehicle homicide, a wife and mother comes into the station and confesses to the crime. When they find that her confession has holes in it, she admits that she made up the story because she wants the detectives to put her in prison in order to protect her from her abusive husband. When they tell her they will protect her, she offers to help them crack their case. I strongly believe that if Sgt. Friday would have had to handle a case like that, he would have accused her of wasting his time. Also, Sgt. Daniels comes very close to getting physical with her husband after he uses foul language about her in front of him. The big comparision though between 60s Dragnet and this show is that Sgt. Daniels was better at relationships of any kind than Sgt. Friday was. It is obvious to me that people who have written bad reviews on this show dislike it because Jack Webb is not associated with it. In short, because it's new, it stinks. But the fact that it's new is what makes it good. Watch it and find out.
