New Amsterdam

There may have been some inconsistencies in terms of the writing and details - see review below re EMTs etc. However, this show had a much more satisfying premise and characters than Outlander ever had. It also was a fantastic foil for exploring past cultural biases - as in the 2nd episode where he married an African American woman.This the sort of thing that one can actually point to, if one has friends from abroad who are of dark color and say, "This the way things were, and thank God times have changed."I find the main character and his personal approach to things, again born of being able to use the idea that he is over 300 years old, is/was/would have been an incredibly rich source of subtle insights that the writers, IF they had been allowed to get going full blast would have probably tapped into.I swear it seems like the networks expect every show to be an American Idol success overnight. Of course they're not cheap to make, but for goodness sakes it takes time to court and ultimate win an audience - certainly more than just eight episodes.

Sorry, the inconsistencies and inanities in the storyline, characters, plot, and setting are enough to drive a person insane! In the pilot episode, I counted several. It strikes me that the writers and producers of this show were simply too lazy to do just a bit of research. One example - the chest compressions in the scene where they're trying to "revive" the protagonist are completely wrong and any CPR novice can tell you that, much less an ER professional! You're going to go a lot faster on the compressions and most importantly, you're going to use your body weight and not your arm strength as this "doctor" is. I can see why this series was cancelled: one can only suspend one's disbelief so far. Granted, the main characters' actors are good-looking, but heck, they're not gorgeous enough to make me throw reason out the window.
