The argument about subtitles vs. dubbed has been going on since anime hit the American shores. You all are not saying anything new, so why don't the subber's watch (or should I say read) their version, and the dubber's watch theirs...
(btw, to a certain person with the initials L.R. - you really sound quite snobbish. You remind me of myself twenty years ago - and yes, they had anime then! I had to learn the hard way that life is easier and more fun when you accept people and their differences without judging so harshly. I wish you luck and hope it doesn't take you as long as it did me!)

Do NOT mention "Samurai X"; whoever gave that anime to hulu was a moron, it's "Rurouni Kenshin". Not to mention, most of the subs here are just ripped off from unofficial (illegal) fan-subs. They didn't even steal the good pirate subs~

American voice-overs typically ruin it for me. They usually don't do a very good job "acting," but my biggest peeve is when Americans speak slower than the original dialog. They need to do this because saying "konichiwa," for instance, is longer than saying "hi" or "hello." If you've ever watched the dubbed version of the vampire anime movie Blood you'll see what I mean.

I honestly can't watch an anime without subtitles. The only passable one is Miyazaki's Spirited Away. The American voice acting for that was a whole production [not like the rest of them out there].

This is called a harem anime. If you like this, then I suggest looking for Shuffle, Love Hina, Fruit Basket, Kanon, and My Bride is a Mermaid.

As for the school romance, I'd suggest a slice-of-life anime. School Rumble would probably be your best bet.
