Though Negima! follows the manga fairly well for the first arc and does well in making a separate plot, the problem is not in the beginning. In the end, the anime is okay but there are holes in the plot. For example, how does Saotomi and Ling Chen know about magic? (This is explained in the manga, but is not explained in the anime=confusion) Another example is why does Asuna have the power she does? Though I love the Negima series, I do not like the anime. I prefer Negima!? because it follows the Negima Neo series well and doesn't appear to have as many plot holes as Negima! did.
