My So-Called Life

I've only watched 3 episodes so far, and already I can tell this is a classic show. What a shame that they canceled it after one season! It's as though the people in charge of the money and the creative people are from different planets. Come on, guys--not every show needs to be a blockbuster. Sure, you need a few blockbusters; they pay for the truly exceptional programs like "My So-called Life" which may be unrecognized in their own time but which continue to resonate down the decades.

Although only around for 19 episodes, this critically acclaimed series launched the career of Claire Danes through the brilliant writing of Winnie Holzman. The series centers around a middle class, teenaged high school girl who is going through the same conflicts we all experienced when we think back on our "growing pains." Angela questions authority, tests boundaries, deals with mistrust, falls in love, learns to let go, deals with jealousy, drugs, betrayal, spirituality, illiiteracy, theft, sex, and of course her physical appearance. The brilliance of the series is that while she is living out her life, her parents are often experiencing the same moral struggle but in an their "adult" lives. Each episode exposes an epiphanic realization for Angela that brings an inter-generational (or trans-generational?) understanding with her parents that shines a hopeful light on all of our "so-called" lives.

although this show is way outdated(meanin like it was made in the '90s)
when my frend showed this to me i immediately fell in luv with the characters
like in some way we can all relate to this even if it nvr happened
n like they did such a great job in this series n it killed me when i had to watch the very last episode of the very last season cuz so much was just left for me to thinx bout which killed me cuz i wasnt ready to let go
the show is hilarious like the way they dress/ style n like their behavior

i ABSOLUTELY LOVE this show n seriously ENCOURAGE THAT YOU WATCH IT!!!

I watched this show when I was little, and I specifically remembered the Christmas episode, it was so moving. A couple of years ago I found the complete season on DVD and bought it - but then was involved in a house fire which consumed the aforementioned set. I'm pleasantly surprised to find the season here: thanks, Hulu!

I remember when this show aired - I used to watch it every week on ABC. I still love it and it is still as funny, insightful, and touching as I remember it to be. The characters and dialog was true to life then. I'm not sure about what adolescents are like now, but I know that the portrayals of teens back then were very accurate on this show. The acting performance of all the people were spot on. The show itself dealt with real issues about finding yourself, teenage angst, sex, drugs, violence, and the dynamics of the modern family. It's really such a shame that ABC didn't have this show run for longer than one season. The true talent apparent in its creation and execution ended far too soon. If you haven't seen this series before, I highly recommend it.

It's a bummer this show got cancelled. Although it was before my time I found it on some television network when I was in high school and fell in love. I'm glad that it's now online. It actually portrays teenagers!
