Although only around for 19 episodes, this critically acclaimed series launched the career of Claire Danes through the brilliant writing of Winnie Holzman. The series centers around a middle class, teenaged high school girl who is going through the same conflicts we all experienced when we think back on our "growing pains."
Angela questions authority, tests boundaries, deals with mistrust, falls in love, learns to let go, deals with jealousy, drugs, betrayal, spirituality, illiiteracy, theft, sex, and of course her physical appearance. The brilliance of the series is that while she is living out her life, her parents are often experiencing the same moral struggle but in an their "adult" lives.
Each episode exposes an epiphanic realization for Angela that brings an inter-generational (or trans-generational?) understanding with her parents that shines a hopeful light on all of our "so-called" lives.
