Reminds me of the stories my granfdmother used to tell me when I was growing up in London, and how her great-great-grandfather once served on such a vessel. Though I personally can't imagine being on such a ship at the time, as I'm sure the stench of death and smell of gunpowder would have been overwhelming. But I love the drama, of Russel Crowe's character,tCaptain Aubrey, the way he searched for the illusive French vessel, like Ahab searching for the White Whale. I also loved how they filmed the Galapagos Islands, the various creatures and the bleakness of the islands themselves. The last of which reminded me of the Jacques Cousteau specials I watched many years ago. Now I want to find the books they're adapted from.

I loved this movie - loved - and i didn't even like Russell Crowe.. but its awesome - and parts of it are kind of like a Darwin meets the Galapagos..

Nice acting too, and not over dramatacized .. plus Paul Bettany is an added bonus

All the previous reviews spell it out very well on just how huge and engaging this movie is. And for me it really put some things in perspective. We're all so pampered in our age of instant everything and low effort convenience. The type of life depicted in this film proves how spoiled we all are in our cell phone-microwave oven-ebay shopping-debit card swiping-directv watching lives. On a lighter note thank God they had rum on that ship or they wouldve all killed eacthother!

This is such a great epic movie, it screams for a sequel. It captures the full spirit of serving on H.M.S Surprise. Crowe is outstanding, with a wonderful supporting cast and excellent production. I sure hope for Master and Commander II.

The visuals are stunning, the story extravagant, and the chemistry between Captain Crowe and the doctor friend make this one well worth watching. Never a dull moment in this truly amazing flick.

This is the first time I've seen this movie, and it was an epic naval war movie. It was made so well I felt as if I was on board the ship. One of the greatest musical scores of any film. I was actually dissapointed to see it end and wished it would continue on. Great video quality, the placement of commercials was perfect, and they were actually short too. Well worth your time.
