There are definitely elements of this show where either homage is being paid or ideas are being expounded upon and certainly aspects that have since been imitated.
But no other show that this one is similar to is as funny, in my opinion.
The humor here, some of it very ManShowesque and some even tongue-in-cheek Colbertiffic, is spectacular, even without the influence of laugh-inducing chemicals.
I like the half-hour format, because I think an hour of this at a time might get a bit stale.
The actors are great, the girl is sexy, the desert is beautiful.
Truly great show and it's a shame it didn't make it further than it did.

Man, I found myself living in southern Arizona for a few years and this show nails it. The people it portrays, well I've met their doppelgangers all and they are dead on accurate. The place, it REALLY sucks. But there's a weird surreal quality to the desert that grows on you, and that quality is captured by the show as well.
What else? The old people from all over the midwest and Canada that basically just come there to die, the young people looking for a way out, and the rest of them, misfits and raggedy hooers and gun toting simpletons and desert crazies...they're all real.
I used to have to try to explain what living in southern Arizona was like, now I just tell people to watch this show and they'll get it.
It's just about perfect.

I think they should have put it in the comedy section instead of action and adventure. This is a must see if you like cheezy makeup and bad jokes. Every episode had me rolling on the floor somewhere though it.

I keep rding the same question over and over "Where was this show?" So I thought I'd offer up some answers.
First of all most of these shows came out before sights like Hulu had come out. Even so the network must agree to allow the show to be shown on these sights. Not always so easy to do, many of the shows have so many people involved in giving permission that it's defficult to get everyone to sign off on it. Next is the airing of the shows. Keep in mind that many of these shows were on during the current "Hit Show" that everyone was watching. Some were shown in difficult time slots (It's hard for a show like this to get the necessary ratings to stay on TV when it's opposite "Friends" or on at the same time as Conan Obrion, or the Tonight Show. When a new show comes out it is often placed against a "giant" and since it doesn't slay the giant, it has one of two things happen, it gets moved to a difficult time to watch, or it gets moved against another giant, or it gets canceled. People don't remember the original Star Trek, but it never did great with the ratings, still it had a broad fan base who worked hard to keep it on the air. The networks finally killed it when it was moved to a 10p.m. time slot because most of the people who watched the show went to bed at that time. So much for Star Trek. The point is most of us were probably watching the relevant "Top Show" when such shows as this came out. on another channel. Such is life. Such are ratings, and as far as the executives are concerned if it doesn't pull the rating numbers, it ain't no good. No matter how good the show really is.

I only wish they had made more than one season, easy show to get hooked on.

Best part of this show is the "closing remarks" at the end, right before the credits. Worth sitting through that last commercial for. They offend as many people a possible with those. Priceless.
