While not the oldest series out there, this is still considered an early magic girl anime series. The anime came out in '94, two years after sailor moon reached the U.S. and it was seen as a more action filled magic girl series for it's time. Durring the 90's magic girl was at it's peak, and Sailor moon was all the rage. It was one of the first series not intended for adults alone that showed girls in such a graphic manor and also, if you did not watch the dubbed version, had a fantastic story. CLAMP, a company that mainly did Manga, wanted something that could compete and MKR was the answer. It showed girls in a less revealing light and was far more serious from episode to episode. The style was visually more appealing to the adult demographic and rather than the newer 90's style of artwork, it followed more of an 80's feel for the overall series. It is well written and a wonderful representation of classic anime before the newer 2000's flashy style. A great pick for newer anime viewers if you want to understand the history of magic girl.
i hope they add season 2!
