I watched this show when it aired 5 yrs ago and I am as enamored with it today as I was back then. I watch "Life" in its entirety at least once a year, sometimes more. If this ever gets removed from hulu, I will buy it on DVD (and that says something because I am frugal -okay, cheap- and very seldom spend money on movies, music, or a TV series).
The writers did such an excellent job with the characters and storyline, it draws you in and stays with you afterwards, forcing you to ask hard questions about yourself and your life, the people in it, and your beliefs and morals. Unlike other shows, it's not simply a show that revolves around the mystery of 'who framed Charlie and why'. It's a story about a good man who went through something horrible, and how he survived so that he could live again; but most importantly, how he retained his humanity, didn't lose himself, and ultimately, how he touched other peoples lives and made a difference in his world. It's a show full of important lessons, and I respect that. Sure I enjoy being mindlessly entertained from time to time, where I don't have to use my higher brain functions and guess at anything. But when I want to be pulled in and enmesh myself in a story and be right there every step of the way with the characters... this is the show I want. No matter how many times I've seen it, I always want to see it again, and there are few shows, movies, or books that can claim that from me.
It can seem at times as if a person was almost born to play a certain role. Tom Hanks was Forrest Gump, Jeri Ryan was Seven of Nine, and Damian Lewis IS Charlie Crews, a quirky and completely real, lovable guy.
