Good story and characters, muskateer like

I'm not going to get into a flame war, but I have no idea what the other reviewers are on. This is an awesome anime, one that I own the DVD's for, from start to finish. The fact you can watch it her for free is just nuts lol.So basically this is a story about a historic figure, Le Chevalier D' Eon, where the skeleton of the story is historically accurate, with the flesh being all fiction. IE the movements of D'Eon were true, his cross dressing was true, his sister and supernatural Psalms were not.In the very end almost everything is explained (I say almost because its been over a year since I watched this, so sorry if my memory of it is a little fuzzy), and the last couple episodes resolve them in mind blowing ways. I don't want to ruin anything, but I knew there was a reason I freaking hated Robin...Anyways the voice acting was indeed the weakest element. However its definitely in the tolerable to good range, a far cry from the crap people would put up with in the old days.

So in the end, watch this all the way through. If you really like, buy it. Share it. Its time that good animes like this spread and make profit, and fail series like Gurren Lagan get sent to the bargain bin for being the trash they are.

What is unfortunate about this anime is that it starts off with an excellent first episode and just goes down hill from there. The series begins with a young knight of France discovering his dead sister in a coffin with "Psalms" written on it floating down the river Seine. This is all very well and good raising the inevitable question of " Who killed her?" Hence the plot begins. The episode then continues to make many references to the occult and to the important point that France has many secrets. What starts off as a murder mystery then quickly transforms into a boring historical romance that ultimately proves unsatisfying. It tries it's best to include many historical allusions from that era but never satisfies, because it botches history entirely. The voice acting doesn't fare any better either, after all the British characters don't even sound British. This is a script that is poorly paced and tries to do too much in a 24 episode series. Although I will say that the art direction is done well as well is the music but aside from that there isn't anything good about this series, which is a huge disappointment.

The beginning of Le Chevalier D'Eon was a little rocky but showed a lot of promise. I was happy to see a new plot - a refreshing addition to a medium that tends to stick with what it knows. Unfortunately, a different plot isn't enough to make a good show. The middle was alright, though too heavy on the political plots and chatter. A great middle is not enough to excuse an awful ending, and in this case, the middle was only passable - and the ending really was bad. So many plots were either tied up poorly or left loose altogether, and other plot revelations were thrown in sloppily during the last few episodes. I think the story's main problem was its inability to explain anything. We're never told about what the Psalms really are, how they got their power or why they're so important. not only that, but they seemed to gain different powers as the writers needed to fill in plot holes. Plot points that were set up frequently peter out into nothing - I'm still annoyed with the skull storyline that never went anywhere. Many of the characters' motivations are only explained a bit or simply not at all.Speaking of characters, I'm torn on the cast. On one hand, there were a number of characters that had interesting personalities, though by the end of the series, the good characters had either died or done a complete face-heel turn out of the blue. Voice acting ranged from very good to, well, not, and several actors were inconsistent in their personalities. At any rate, there were too many characters to fit in such a short series, and many that had the potential to grow into interesting characters weren't given the chance. Not going to comment much on the gender bending and incest, but it was off putting. Here are two positive points for the series. The music was very fitting and well done, and though the facial designs for the main characters weren't outstanding, the costumes and settings were lovely.

This is only a good anime, it almost was a great anime.This show is like Jerry Springer with French Royalty in the 1800's. Gahhhhh the BS like: I am we, we are three, three is thee. over and over and on and on. I am your baby momma, surprise! Yo baby is black. I birthed a white baby, who is this d___ impostor. OMG he really is my baby because, my great grand mother was black! Who knew it would take 24 episodes?!But much is good about this anime, like the voice acting and most dialogue was quality. The scenes looked pretty. And the catholic jesus zombies were pretty vicious.3 stars for the anime and 5 stars for my amazing critical review.
