Land of the Lost

While it may had cheesy dialogue and special effects, Land of the Lost was considered ground breaking entertainment. For a kids show it had very mature themes such as time distortions, paradoxes, and survival... all on Saturday Morning!
Who wasn't scared witless by the Slestaks and their enigmatic red eyes, or laughed at the antics of Holly and her pet dino Dopey.
Sure, the stop motion FX were a bit hoakey, but as a kid I didn't care. Thanks Hulu for bringing back this wonderful show from a much simpler time...

This was an amazing departure from the Krofft Brother's other work into real science fiction, and when I first viewed JJ Abram's "Lost" series, I could not help but notice the similarities between the two shows. Both shows involve people lost in a hostile wilderness existing in a space-time bubble, confronted with all sorts of bizarre denizens pulled in from various points of history.LotL can be tedious, due to its low-budget production value, but the writing is more original than any sci-fi series of its time (including adult programming). The Kroffts had the added stricture of having to write exclusively for children, but the show nevertheless sparked the imaginations of a generation of future storytellers. I suspect JJ Abrams might have been among them.
