Overview

Hulu Desktop is a lean-back viewing experience for your personal computer. It features a sleek new look that's optimized for use with standard Windows Media Center remote controls or Apple remote controls, allowing you to navigate Hulu's entire library with just six buttons. For users without remotes, the application is keyboard and mouse-enabled. Hulu Desktop is a downloadable application and will work on PCs and Macs. It will initially launch as a beta product during which we plan to gather and incorporate user feedback to improve the service.

Navigating

Use the "menu" or "back" button on your remote to toggle between the current video and the menu (on your PC, use the tab or escape key). From the menu, use your left or right keys to move between menu items and press "OK" or "Play" on your remote to choose a selection. While watching the video, you can view your progress within the video by tapping the up or down arrow, and then use the same arrows to adjust volume. Your remote also controls playback: you can pause or resume a video (use the spacebar on your keyboard), jump forward or back, or seek a particular scene.

Finding Your Way Around

Scan Hulu's lineup of TV shows and movies, which you can browse in alphabetical order, by network or studio, or by Hulu channel. Watch a random video anytime by pressing and holding the "play" or "enter" button on your remote. Press and hold the "menu" button (tab or escape on your keyboard) to pull up a video menu to browse other options.

Personalizing Hulu Desktop

Get the most out of Hulu Desktop by linking it to your Hulu account. If you don't have an account, sign up for one at hulu.com and then start Hulu Desktop, where you can scroll down the main menu to "Profiles" and log in by adding your profile. From there, you can access personalized data about your account, including your queue, subscriptions and viewing history. Go to "preferences" under your account for custom settings, ranging from closed captioning settings to video playback quality.

What are the minimum requirements to run Hulu Desktop on my PC/Mac? How is Hulu Desktop different from Hulu.com?
Hulu Desktop runs directly on your computer and does not require a web browser. It provides an alternate way to browse and view content from the Hulu Library.

Is the same content on Hulu.com available on Hulu Desktop?
Generally speaking, the Hulu library on Hulu.com will be available through Hulu Desktop. While our goal is to have the same content library available through all of our distribution channels, we work together with our partners to determine availability of their content on these various channels.

Do I need an account to use Hulu Desktop?
No account is required to use Hulu Desktop. Just download and enjoy.

Can I access my profile and queue from Hulu Desktop?
Yes, you may login to Hulu Desktop and access your queue, history, subscriptions, playback quality and closed captioning preferences. Your profile details, privacy settings and friends are not accessible from Hulu Desktop.

Which remote controls work with Hulu Desktop?
Hulu Desktop will work with Apple and Windows Media Center remotes. Remotes that are compatible with Windows XP and Vista can be purchased at most electronics retailers. Hulu Desktop for Linux supports input from hundreds of infrared remote controls using the LIRC open source package.

What devices support Hulu Desktop?
Hulu Desktop is currently available for Mac, Windows, and Linux PCs. Hulu Desktop is not supported on consumer electronic devices.

Why does Hulu Desktop require me to install Flash?
Because Hulu Desktop operates on Flash, the latest version of Flash must be installed to function properly. You will only be prompted to install Flash if you do not have it on your computer, or if you have an older version already installed.
