Fair heist pic with more atmosphere than substance
Some interesting camera work helps make up for the budget limitations. Mostly good performances. Story writing was fine, dialogue however has lots of weak spots. A far cry from "Reservoir Dogs" or Spike Lee's "Inside Man" (sequel coming!), it is still better than most other low-budget crime pics. Just short of four stars. By the way, I actually watched the movie before posting my review.
I dunno how you can't like this one. Granted, it is low budget and the violence is left to the viewer's imagination at times---in a way that's what makes it unique and interesting. The comedy, irony, and other elements are used very well and the lead actor in this does a great job. Overall, is it slow? I guess it depends on the individual viewer---sometimes slow can be good if there are the right elements added in as is the case here. I thought it was a very good flick, with a great ending and really if there was a way to give this thing 4 1/2 stars I would. Definitely recommend this one as it is one of the better ones I've seen on Hulu.
If all you care to see in a movie is snatch, snort and snuff, then this one is for you. This film does have some interesting camera work, but lacks wit and cleaverness to draw you in, unlike "Pulp Fiction" and it's unique offering of sex, drugs and violence. I'm calling this movie shallow, with an ending that is not worth waiting for.
A very cool and highly entertaining gangster movie !
Killing Zoe didn't bomb, it was a very low budget film and it made millions worldwide. It was the firts film by Roger Avary and it doesn't look like a first film.It has a smart plot, it's fast paced , has cool and unnusual characters and is incredibly well directed. This is truly one of the best gangster films from the 90's. Plus it's set in Paris. What's not to like? :-)
Sure, it bombed at the box office, but I remember liking it back then. Haven't seen it in ages.
Avery hasn't really made much decent work since then, but he is known for being associated with and co-writing 'Reservior Dogs,' 'True Romance,' and 'Pulp Fiction' with Quentin Tarantino, and this is similar material.
It's the kind of movie that is pretty divided in how people feel about it.
