Ken Burns' The National Parks: America's Best Idea

Every one who enjoys the national parks system, and understands the very reason the National Parks exists, and the reason they must be protected, this topic is for you. For the rest of you who see the parks as kindling waiting to be sold, you are vampires, sit down shut up and do not say a word.The National Park system is under attack. People who attack it are government officials in the pocket of those who see the parks as land waiting to deforested and sold off as prime old growth lumber then the land itself can be auctioned off as dirt cheep real estate and anything that's left can be mined, for coal, stone, iron, or even oil and gas. Many parks already have lumber jacks hard at work slashing them to the ground, and others are fenced off where men dig for oil and gas. Nearby towns get contaminated water and the forest suffers becuase men literally pump radioactive materials and highly caustic chemicals into the earth to force it into giving up resources they can sell to people too stupid or too greedy to know the difference. When you stop to think about it you might realize that this is also happening in places that are not protected like the Rainforests of the world. Men toil day and night to completely erase these forests, the animals and the plants. All in the name of an easy dollar.If we do not fight tooth and nail to keep the greedy vampires in suits, ties, and hard harts out of our National forests, soon all that may remain will be your pictures and documentaries like this one.
