I watched this show avidly as a young boy, right after Spider-man ('68) -- I specifically remember this and Ultraman. What little boy wouldn't want a giant robot he could control with his wrist watch? The effects are on par with Godzilla and Gamera movies from the 60's and 70's and of course the suits and makeup are pretty cheesy, but when you're 5 years old you tend to overlook the zippers and eye-holes. This series holds up remarkably well for it's age, and the dubbing is actually pretty good all things considered. The human violence is a little more wild than what we might see today -- guns and grenades and tanks and explosions, but never any blood or gore. Some other reviewers have tried to compare this to other shows -- I would say that THIS is the precursor to the Power Rangers (and all of it's subsequent incarnations). I have been waiting IMPATIENTLY for this series to be released on DVD here in the United States (it's even on Amazon as a "pending" DVD-R title on demand). Either way, this allowed me to relive my childhood while watching them with my 3 year old son who now LOVES Giant Robot (and Ultraman, Godzilla, Gamera, etc...) but Giant Robot is his favorite and mine!
